Takayuki Sakiyama

8 October - 6 November 2021

Elegant, sophisticated, maybe even hypnotizing: there are many ways to describe the work of Takayuki Sakiyama. Covered with a uniquely textured sand glaze and inspired by the rough shorelines of Japan, Sakiyama's creations are instantly recognizable without ever being blatant or obvious. Their shapes are intriguing, their colors soft and subtle. Just like waves in the ocean, they are calm and powerful at the same time.

Takayuki Sakiyama was born and raised in Osaka, one of Japan's major metropolitan area's. In search of inspiration, however, he left the city and travelled along the country's many majestic shores in search of the perfect beach. Among the scenic mountains of the Japanese Pacific Coast, he eventually found it and set up his ceramic workshop. Here, he continues to work in serenity and harmony with his environment.

Takayuki Sakiyama has gained wide international recognition throughout his career. His works are included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Musée National de la Céramique, Sèvres, France - among many others.
